Its BIG, its FAT and its here. Big Fat Pizza finally opened and right in my backyard. I had been craving Chicago style deep dish pizza for a while and when i learnt what was about to open i was super excited. Went with my family for dinner tonight so we could try a couple of different things.
Sadly, it was probably not my day or my expectations were too high.
We ordered a Foccacia, Caesers salad and Truffle fries as starters. One regular crust pizza with Pepperoni (Diavola), a deep dish margherita and a deep dish with Spicy Salami (Dynamite). Getting straight to the point, the sauce didnt work for me. It was a little too sour for my liking and had an excess of basil. I dont like basil and the basil pesto on top of the Margherita deep dish didnt help. Deep dish pizzas that i like are a gooey mess of cheese and sauce, this wasnt it. The sauce was so much that i couldnt taste anything else and the 2 deep dish pizzas practically tasted the same.
I really like the salad although the fries didnt have any smell or taste of truffles. Someone did ask me what i thought of my meal and i candidly shared everything i have just written.
Its just something about my palate but dont take my word for it. I see people in there all day so it must be working for some folks and i am pretty sure they have done their menu tastings with a bunch of people.
